Results of the 2010 Fishing for Kids Saltwater Trout Tournament

The organizers of the Fishing for Kids Tournament wanted to pass along the results of their event and here they are:

The 6th Anuual Fishing for Kids Saltwater Trout Tournament to benefit Shands Children’s Hospital was a huge success. With the weather being a little better than predicted we hosted 46 boats out of Gulfstream Marina in Steinhatchee. Counting our youth anglers we had over 100 fisherman competing for the top prize.

Gerry and Debra Hunter took the $1000.00 First with a 5 Trout total of 12lbs15.5ozs. They also won $250.00 for Biggest Trout  which weighed in at 4lbs.12.75ozs. Placing second was the team of Robert Suter and David Woodham for 400 dollars with a bag weighing 11lbs1.5ozs. Third place, winning 200 dollars, was Ronnie Martin and John Eagle with a bag weight of 10lbs.15.75ozs. Completing the payout for total trout was Warren Marshall and James Mullins coming in 4th with their bag weighing 9ls.13.25ozs. earning them 100 dollars.

Biggest redfish went to the team of Charles Horne and Pat Fitzu with a stocky 5lb.13oz. red for 300 dollars while most spots for 250.00 went to the team of Stuart Hastings and Brett Burford with a nice slot red sporting 8 spots.

With 16 kids competing in the youth division 1st place goes to Jacob Broskey weighing in a 1 fish limit of 2lbs4.5ozs. 2nd goes to Garrett Hersey with a 1lb.10oz. trout. And Trace Willingham captured 3rd with his fish tipping the scale at 1lb 7.5ozs. There were plenty of smiles as each youth participant was awarded a new rod and reel combo for their efforts. It’s was cool to see these youngsters enjoy the sport we love .After all, they’re our future anglers.

We concluded the tournament with a large raffle and a tasty fish fry. We look forward to next years tournament tentatively set for April 30 2011.
