Some of you may have read the report put out by the state that the scallop population is down from previous years. While I do not doubt the states finding in their survey, I can tell you that since the survey was taken something drastic must have happened, because there are more scallops this year than in any other year of recent memory. While scalloping Saturday, I was taken back to when I was a little boy and the pure joy that comes from diving down and grabbing handfuls of scallops at a time. This was not an isolated incident. It was not uncommon to speak with people and hear “We limited out in one hour” or “I have never seen so many scallops”.
